The 25th Christmas Charity Walk 2009

The organisers Clive, Ian and John were overwhelmed by the response that greeted them on arriving at the Red House on the 27th December. We have been used to 150 walkers from Highclere, Woolton Hill and surrounding villages, but this year the numbers had swelled to 320.

Undaunted, after coffee and bacon butties, made available by Simon of the Red House the walk started. Due to the large numbers this year, it took a little time to get going as the first stile was only a few hundred yards ahead. Once over this the walk continued through to the Cemetery Chapel at Highclere Castle and on to the Temple, where mulled wine and mince pies were waiting courtesy of Los Jubilados. Unfortunately, only the first 175 received a pie but everyone had mulled wine. The return trip to the Red House went via Highclere Church.

At the Red House, many walkers enjoyed lunch of soup, curry etc and our thanks go to Simon and his staff for coping so well. We would also like to thank Lord and Lady Carnarvon for permission to walk over their land.

This year's charity was The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and a sum of over £710 was donated for which the organisers thank all the participants.
