News - Summer 2011

Below are reports on recent Society events. Members of the society receive regular emails about this and other news ahead of it appearing on this website.

We will be 15 years old in October!

To celebrate we shall be holding a party.

On 12th November, we will have a "Broadway" themed evening do for adults in the village hall with a cabaret, dancing, good food and drink. Dress up as your favourite Broadway character that covers anything from funny to glamorous, including black tie and posh frocks. Reserve now, the £25 ticket payment will collected in September. Due to expected high demand, the event is only open to members. However, we will hold a guest wait list should there be availability at the last minute.

In addition to this subsidised party for members, your committee is considering what gift to give to the Village in this special year.

Footnote: The event was a great success, with 90 members attending; the cabaret "Miss Behaving" was superb; Barbara Martin did a wonderful job with the food and £415 was raised via the raffle for St Michael's Hospice Basingstoke.

The Highclere Film Club

The Highclere Film Club would like to thank all Society members who helped to raise £230 from the 'Waitrose' green disc appeal in March. The money will go towards a portable screen so that we can show films in neighbouring village halls and schools.

The Trust celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Society is a corporate member.

They have a program of walks, talks, family events and conservation activities. For details visit www.hwt.org.uk or phone 01489 774400.
