Happy New Year To All!

"Highclere Choir" Carol Singing 2011

Thanks to everyone who supported the village's carol singers just before Christmas. The choir raised £278 for Cancer Research in one evening of door-to-door house collections, followed by a good old sing-song in the Red House.

The Annual Village Christmas Charity Walk 2011

Highclere Society and East Woodhay Society, together with the organisers, Los Jubilados Luncheon Club, were delighted with the response to this year's walk from the Furze Bush, Ball Hill on the 27th December, over five miles of lovely countryside. This year the group numbered approx 200 walkers with many more children, from Highclere, Woolton Hill and surrounding villages - a great turnout!

The walk headed out to North End, via Heath End to St Martin's Church and back via a circular walk to the Furze Bush. Half way round (many thanks to Peter Mason for the use of his land), mulled wine and mince pies were waiting, courtesy of the organisers. At the Furze Bush, apart from a well-earned drink, many walkers enjoyed lunch, and our thanks go to Nick Rolfe and his staff for coping so well. This year's charity was 'Jacks Place', the hospice for teenagers at Sutton Scotney and a sum of £600 was donated, for which the organisers thank all the participants.

Pride in our Parish

You may be aware of the Pride in our Parish initiative that the Society is supporting in various ways. For example, Society members have painted the railings at either end of the village and others have planted daffodil bulbs around the village. At last year's AGM, Kevin Pearson gave a summary of what has happened and what he would like to see happen for the benefit of all in and around the village. And as a result of his presentation, a number of people came forward to offer him their services. Please could those people and anyone else who would like to help with the ongoing projects contact Kevin by telephone on 01635 253975 or by sending an email to silkpursebaths*at*
