News: July-August 2012

Below are selected items from our July and August newsletters. Members of the society receive the full newsletter and other regular updates by email ahead of them appearing on this website

Pride in our Parish

Pride in our Parish is an ongoing initiative that the Society is supporting in various ways. There have been two projects in progress in recent weeks. Firstly, many thanks to Kevin Pearson and Nic White for their hard work in renovating the bus shelter on the A343 - it's been given a new lease of life! The woodwork has been sanded down, cleaned, all staples and drawing pins removed and a coat of weather seal applied. The seat has been given the same treatment and the notice board has been removed for renovation and will be replaced in the near future. Work still needs to be done to the roof and Kevin and Nic may be asking for some volunteers to help with this as it's not in a good condition! And secondly, following requests from the Highclere Society committee and Highclere Parish Council, the Borough Council has now erected "Soft Verge" signs along the A343 between the Penwood crossroads and the A34 bridge. We are hopeful that this will deter vehicles from parking in the unofficial (and very muddy) lay-bys that have appeared on this stretch of road.
