The Village Christmas Walk - Tuesday 27th December

The annual Christmas Walk is on Tuesday 27 December meeting at 10.30 am at the Highclere Red House for a prompt 11am start, returning to the pub by 1pm. The route will meander through Highclere and local surrounding areas. Everyone is welcome; there is no need to book, just turn up.

Sturdy waterproof footwear is recommended but not pushchairs or wheelchairs as the walk can be muddy in places and there are stiles. Well-behaved dogs are most welcome but they must be on a lead. Approximately halfway round there will be a pit stop for mulled wine and mince pies and a collection in aid of Charity. For more details contact Ian 253995, John 253889 or Clive 254839.

Road Closures - Water Mains Replacement

Local residents will have received notice from Southern Water that water mains around the village are being replaced. This is a rolling programme that will take about 6 months.

Initially affected are restrictions on Mount Road and closures at certain times on Pantings Lane. A temporary road closure order has also been placed on Westridge with effect from 14th November for 3 months (though the expectation is that the works will be completed within 8 weeks. All traffic will be prohibited from travelling along Westridge, Highclere, between Tubbs Lane and the A343 Andover Road, as directed by traffic signs.

If you have any queries regarding these closures please contact Samantha Hartley on 01273 497785 or email samantha.hartley*AT*morrisonus.com on behalf of MGJV Southern Water Partnership.

Highclere Society 20 Year Celebration

Over 80 members enjoyedour 20th Anniversary Casino Dinner Party on 29th October. It was a night to remember packed with activity. We gambled the night away with abandon mainly because funny money chips were provided free! Christa Dick won a bottle of Champagne for finishing with the most chips! After that we danced to Steve Smarts very smart disco. All the committee worked very hard but a special mention goes to Traci Sharp for the wonderfully co-ordinated gambling themed table decorations.

Highclere Christmas Carol Singers

Do you enjoy singing Christmas Carols? If so, why not join the Highclere Christmas Carol Singers as they go round the village on Wednesday 14th December singing carols in aid of charity. New faces will be very welcome, irrespective of age and singing ability. The event starts at 6.30pm venue to be advised and will finish at around 9.00 pm at the Red House where it is hoped members of the East Woodhay Silver Band will join the singers for a final round of Carols.
