Highclere Society Summer Barbecue

summer bbq

The Highclere Society Summer Barbecue was held on Sunday 25th June. Our thanks go again to Phil and Sally for hosting the event at their lovely home and gardens for another year. 100 Society members enjoyed the occasion, the food was very good and the drink flowed. We were fortunate with the weather, warm at times with the odd cold, strong gusts but no rain. The welcome drink of Pimm's has become a firm favourite, and went down very well.

he BBQ was provided by Gary Lemon of Thames Valley Meats and his team did a tremendous job. These events do not happen without a great deal of hard work, so our thanks go to the committee and also the many helpers who came forward over two days to erect gazebos and tents, deliver furniture, prepare food, decorate tables etc. and on the third day reappear to clear up and dismantle!

The raffle prizes sourced by Christine Leah were superb and raised £500. In addition an auction was held for three bottles of wine which raised £200, making a grand total of £700 for the Society's chosen charity The Newbury Samaritans.

Many thanks for the most generous raffle prizes donated by Hare & Hounds Speen; The Carnarvon Arms; The Essebourne Manor Hotel; The Yew Tree Restaurant; The Rampant Cat; The Red House; Phil and Sally Wrigley; N & C Leah, CN Sales and Marketing; Penwood Nurseries; Bernard Macklin.

St Michael's and All Angels' Church

This year the Summer Fete raised over £5,000, and the Open Night at the Highclere Stud raised over £2,000.
