Highclere Society Golf Day

For this year's autumn's golf tournament we returned to Sherfield Oaks Golf club on Monday 30th October. The weather was perfect for golf, dry fresh, no wind, and sunshine with the course in good condition. 20 golfers competed and played very well and produced a number of good scores.

The overall winner was Nick Marshall with 37 points, an excellent score. Prizes also went to Phil Hooper for the longest drive and David Small for nearest the pin. Special prize was awarded to Barry Wall.

The next Golf Society day will be in the spring of 2018.

Highclere Calendar 2018

Thank you to all those who submitted photographs for the 2018 Highclere Calendar. They were all just amazing.

Out of the 183 we received, our judge chose the 12 best images for printing. All the photographs, including the 12 chosen were then displayed in the Village Hall and visitors were asked to choose their favourite for the front cover - from the winning 12.

Calendars are now available for sale at £10 each. Please order quickly and buy as many as you can for friends and family. They will make ideal Christmas presents and all the profits will go towards our Church in Highclere.

Thank you again for your support and just to add, that all the wonderful photographs have been collated in a large folder for anyone to see and then it will be with kept with the History Group as a record.

Highclere Neighbourhood Watch

Highclere has an active Neighbourhood Watch - there are currently 16 co-ordinators, who completely cover the village of Highclere, by looking after an area called a 'Watch'. These coordinators all report in to me and I update the details of members of each 'Watch' and maintain contact with our local police officers.

Being a member of Neighbourhood Watch not only helps the community, as we all look out for suspicious activity but helps to build relationships with your neighbours and other local people.

Our aim is to make Highclere a safe and neighbourly village and to look after each other - one of the reasons that we promoted the "No Cold Calling Zone" which was endorsed by 97% of residents and has had a great effect in reducing the number of doorstep sellers, who used to pester us. Remember that if someone visits you unannounced, to try to sell you something at the door, advise them that they should not be doing so, as Highclere is a "No Cold Calling Zone" and refuse to buy. Then contact your NHW co-ordinator to advise of the incident - they will contact the police. Of course, if the person is aggressive, close the door and dial 999.

If you wish to join Highclere Neighbourhood Watch, or you do not know who your area watch co-ordinator is, contact me on rgs*AT* Please include your full name, address and telephone number, for me to pass on to the relevant person.
