Annual Village Barbecue

The Highclere Society Summer Barbecue was held on Sunday 23rd June. Our thanks go again to Phil & Sally for hosting the event at their lovely home and gardens for another year. 120 Society members and friends enjoyed the occasion, the food was very good and the drink flowed. The weather this year was fine and warm, a little rain to cool us when packing up. The welcome drink of Pimms has become a firm favourite, and enjoyed by all.

The BBQ was provided by Gary Lemon and his team did a tremendous job. These events do not happen without a great deal of hard work, so our thanks go to the committee and also the many helpers who came forward over two days to erect gazebos and tents, deliver furniture, prepare food, decorate tables etc. and on the third day reappear to clear up and dismantle!

The great raffle prizes sourced by Christine Leah were superb and raised £656. In addition an auction was held for five bottles of wine which raised £490, plus donations of £63, making a grand total of £1,209 for the Society's chosen charity Alzheimer's Society.

New From Westridge Studio

Exciting News: The renovation of Westridge has now started! This is something we have all been waiting for

Westridge stand at the Church Fete was very successful, it was apparent that the Community is interested in the project and interested in helping. We had offers to help nearing the end of the project with painting etc. and others signed up to the 200 club for the next year.

The children of Woolton Hill Infants and a class from Woolton Hill Juniors participated in our Logo competition and a winner from each school was chosen. This is still top secret as the children don't find out quite yet. Thank you to everyone who joined in and the teachers that enabled it.

There will be some more fundraising activities advertised in the near future, I do hope you will join us for the fun.

Update (Aug): The steel supports are in to strengthen the upper floor. The first fix of electricity will be going in soon. We are currently on schedule.

Art Competition
The Westridge Trust would like to produce a range of postcards and thank you note packs using local art work. We would like people to send in photos of your original work, paintings, sculpture, ceramics or needlework that you think would be suitable to westridgestudiomarketing*AT* before 18th October 2019 so that they can be judged. The artwork chosen will make up the packs. These packs will be ready for sale before Christmas so will make ideal gifts/stocking fillers.

All proceeds from the sale of cards will go towards the refurbishment of the Westridge Studio.

Update on Society 'Engagement'

Apart from collecting over £1,500 for Alzheimers, our charity of the year, we have more recently supported other local good works in line with our new "engagement with the community" policy (see June news). The Society are pleased to say that we have sponsored the Neighbourcare tent at the recent fete and are sponsoring the licence fee for the Westridge Studio film night.

So, if you have you have an idea you wish to develop don't hesitate to contact the Society.
